I love the Mosin ( have 6 and still spent about half over the years then one AK)

Wallew posted this a few months ago, but it's always worth bringing up again. In fact, I was just thinking about this the other day. Truth is way funnier than fiction! Thanks for the link! :coolbeer:

The Mosin may have been great in its day, but it is not a serious functional battle rifle. Low capacity, slow action, too heavy. However it is a nice cheap hunting rifle for someone who needs something cheap and fast.

BTW... those prices need to be updated.

$99 here. http://www.classicarms.us/

I think AIM Surplus might have some, too.

Got mine from AIMSurplus (Mosin) this past fall for like $70ish.

Thing is a beast.. Heavy as hell compared to my AK or AR. Thing is fairly hard to get used to also. A lot of power behind each shot, the gun for me and my father at least likes to kick up making it a challenge to get used to firing on target.

I enjoy my AR the most for 100 to 200 yard ranges and my AK for 50 to 100 ranges. The mosin is just a heavy beast and a last line of defense for me.

When shooting the MN rifle (any variety), I like to attach a slip-in recoil pad to the stock. This makes it a LOT more friendly to shoot, especially if you're planning to fire a bunch of rounds.

Not cleaning your MN after shooting it will destroy it. Most of the ammo is corrosive. Funny comparison.

"Destroy" might be a bit excessive. Yes, corrosive salts will cause rust/pitting of the bore. That could hurt accuracy in the long term, but the weapon will still function.

Re: Humorous Comparison of an AK47, an AR15 and a Mosin

I would say that a MN not cleaned since 45 would have enough corrosion damage to render it unsafe for use and therefore destroyed since it can no longer function as a firearm. Not cleaning your AK and not cleaning your MN are two totally different situations which this comparison treated as one in the same.

I thought it would be a good thing to point out to new MN owners that might not be aware of this.
